All About Soulons

The hyperversal currency — where spirit becomes substance, and substance becomes power.

⟡ ✦ ⟡

I. Academic Introduction

A foundational primer for first-year scholars of Vaelthrix University on the nature of the hyperverse's only truly universal currency.

A Soulon is, in its truest form, crystallized potential — a congealed manifestation of latent spiritual energy, drawn from a living being's own essence and bound into a stable, portable form. Unlike gold, scrip, or any minted coinage of the lesser realms, a Soulon is not merely a symbol of value. It is value, in its rawest spiritual denomination.

This intrinsic worth is best understood through the principle of Soul Resonance: when a being ingests a Soulon, that energy resonates with their own and is absorbed directly, granting a precise 1-for-1 increase to their Soul Quantity (SQ). There is no exchange rate to negotiate and no intermediary to trust — a Soulon's value is self-evident the moment it is consumed.

It is this property, above all others, that has allowed Soulons to circulate across realms, factions, and even species who share no common tongue, no common government, and no common god. Spirit recognizes spirit.

II. The Origins and Scarcity of Soulons

Where Soulons come from, and why the hyperverse has never suffered a single recorded instance of Soulon hyperinflation.

Soulons are not mined, grown, or printed. They are earned — typically through significant deeds: the completion of a high-level quest, victory in a tournament at the Rememhal Arena, or any feat the hyperverse deems worthy of permanent record.

The mechanism behind their creation is what makes them so precious. To produce raw Soulon energy, an individual must remove a portion of their own Soul Quantity from their personal reserve — not spend it, not deplete it temporarily, but permanently sever it from their being. This act lowers their max SQ, the very ceiling of their power, in order to externalize that energy into a transferable form.

Because this energy is permanently surrendered by its creator, Soulons can never be conjured from nothing. Every coin in circulation represents a real, irreversible sacrifice of someone's power. It is this self-limiting cost — paid in the currency of one's own potential — that has kept the Soulon economy stable across the Ages.

III. The Industry of Creation

Producing a single Soulon requires the cooperation of four entirely different Doctrines of Power — no individual, however gifted, can forge one alone.

From the Self · Soul Doctrine
Controlled Soul Release

The practitioner releases a measured portion of their own Soul Quantity, channeling it into a small mote of raw soul-chi. An SQ is, in essence, a warrior's power level — it can be depleted through use and later recovers through rest, food, or healing. Soul Release is different: the SQ spent this way is gone for good, lowering the warrior's max SQ rather than their current reserve. For this reason, the skill is sometimes used in desperate combat as a last resort, but most reserve it strictly for Soulon production.

From the Intellect · Mind Weaving Doctrine
Calligraphy

Mind Weavers inscribe finite-use Soulon creation scrolls — magical documents that encode the precise ritual structure needed to stabilize raw soul energy into a container. Without a scroll, no container can be enchanted.

From the Weaponeering · Cyclops Doctrine
Magical Crafting

Master smiths work rare metals in magical furnaces, using an active Soulon creation scroll as a forging template, to produce the empty Soulon containers themselves — coins that are, as yet, nothing more than precious metal.

From Divinity · Numinosity Doctrine
Enchanting

Enchanters merge raw soul energy into the empty containers, completing the transformation into true Soulons. A seasoned Enchanter can examine raw SQ and determine its exact quantity on sight — useful, since converting (for example) 202 SQ ideally calls for one Duskmetal coin and two Brimstone coins, while an inexperienced Enchanter might fumble the same sum into a careless pile of Glintstone and Brimstone. Enchanting is also one of the most popular ways to train Numinosity, which is why Enchanters sometimes host free Soulon Enchanting parties, where dozens of warriors arrive with coins and spare soul energy to be converted on the spot.

IV. The Container Catalog

Five known container types exist, each tied to a different source material and a different order of magnitude. Note well: until enchanted with soul energy, none of these are Soulons — they are merely containers.

Brimstone Coin
Common
1 Soulon

Warm, reddish-brown, forged from planetary core minerals.

Glintstone Coin
Uncommon
10 Soulons

Bluish-silver, drawn from deep dungeon crystalline clusters.

Duskmetal Coin
Rare
100 Soulons

Iridescent, harvested from dangerous planetary shadow-zones.

Voidshard Coin
Epic
1,000 Soulons

Jet-black with purple light, extracted from rift anomalies within stars and black holes.

Aetherium Coin
Legendary
10,000 Soulons

Translucent, solidified light. Said to materialize only in the most mystical parts of Rememhal.

Rarity and material worth are not the same as Soulon worth. A non-enchanted Aetherium coin — rare and beautiful as it is — may trade on the open market for no more than a single enchanted Voidshard Soulon, since one carries spiritual power and the other carries only craftsmanship.

V. Site Mechanics — The Three Administrative Pillars

Within Rememhal's own halls, Soulons are the engine behind three core systems of play.

Pillar One
Recruitment

Reaching into the Hall of Eternal Champions to summon new Champions to your banner.

Pillar Two
Logistics

Hiring soldiers and rank-and-file troops through the Legion Builder Nexus.

Pillar Three
Advancement

Channeling energy into existing Champions to Awaken — that is, level up — their dormant potential.

✦ The Hidden Economy

Soulons are not earned through spending alone. Commanders who stay logged in, explore the site, uncover hidden buttons tucked away across its pages, and return for daily activities or to read through its lore will find their Soulon balance quietly growing. The hyperverse rewards curiosity as readily as it rewards conquest.

VI. Comparative Economics

How the Soulon measures against other known currencies and treasures across the hyperverse.

Image Placeholder 4 An infographic comparing the value tiers of Soulons, Draconic Treasures, and standard currency.
5 Soulons ≈Value
Gryyyuch800,000
Halls2,500,000
U.S. Dollars$500,000
Andromedians250,000
Draconic Treasure — Rank 7
~100 Soulons

The cheapest tier of Draconic Treasure, typically used to fuel minor wishes.

Draconic Treasure — Rank 1
1,000,000,000 Soulons

Only one such Treasure exists across the entire hyperverse — the single most expensive item known to exist.

A Note on Dungeoncoins
Dungeoncoins are physically identical to Soulon containers, but they are enchanted without SQ. Rather than granting spiritual power, they unlock specific rewards within the Dungeonverse alone, and should never be mistaken for true Soulons in trade.

VII. Scholarly Note — The Training vs. Consumption Debate

⚠ A Word From Professor Valerius

It is a truth ill-spoken in polite company: the wealthy can inflate their Soul Quantity through consumption alone, swallowing Soulon after Soulon without ever setting foot upon a training ground. This is precisely why so many kings, generals, and ruling lords carry SQs that vastly outstrip their skill — their power was purchased, not earned.

True combatants know better. They place their faith in diligent, often grueling training within the Doctrines of Power, building mastery that no quantity of coin can replicate. It is no rare sight, on the tournament grounds, for a self-made Rank 4 fighter to defeat a Rank 6 who relies on consumption alone — for raw SQ is only ever a ceiling, never a guarantee of how one fights beneath it.

— Professor Valerius, Vaelthrix University, Department of Numinous Economics

A Soulon is only as powerful as the intent behind its expenditure.
